After acquiring a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Purdue University in 1961, James York earned a Master of Science in the same subject from Ohio University in 1968. His career began upon graduating with the bachelor’s degree, as he began working for Borg Warner Chemistries in 1961 and would remain there until 1987. During his time at the institute, he worked as a senior engineer, an administrative manager and a research manager. After leaving the company, he joined General Electric Plastics as a principal engineer and remained there until 1999. In 1999, Mr. York felt a change in the winds and became an instructor at the Washington County Career Center. He is still with the center today. In addition to working at the center, he is a professor with Washington State Community College. He took up a faculty position there in 2007. Additionally, he is the program manager of electrical engineering technology for the university.
